REN21 Newsletter Highlights Global Launch of Renewables 2012 Global Status Report
28 September 2012: The September edition of the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) newsletter reports on the outreach events surrounding the launch of its Renewables 2012 Global Status Report (GSR), as well as on current REN21 activities and publications by its network partners.
The newsletter reports on the launch of the REN21 GSR during several world-wide outreach events in Asia, Europe, Latin-America, Australia, and Africa, which were intended to stimulate discussions about renewable energy at regional and national levels. The newsletter further announces that the findings of the GSR will soon be available via a smartphone app.
The newsletter further provides updates on several REN21 initiatives, including: preparations for the 2013 edition of the GSR; intensified cooperation between REN21 and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in preparation of the International Renewable Energy Conference in Abu Dhabi (ADIREC) in January 2013 during which REN21's Renewables Futures Report will be launched; and the cooperation between the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and REN21 on the development of a Renewable Energy Data Collection Framework (REDAF), which intends to enable the tracking of renewable energy trends nationally and globally and the systematization of this process under a single framework.
The newsletter also reports on several new publications of partners in its network, including: the International Energy Agency (IEA) Renewable Energy Medium-Term Market Report 2012; the Global Energy Assessment, a report by more than 500 scientists, policymakers, and energy experts around the world; and IRENA's cost analysis reports on solar photovoltaics (PV), concentrating solar power (CSP), wind power, hydropower and biomass for power generation. The newsletter closes with updates on several upcoming events. [REN21 Newsletter]
