IRENA Releases Renewable Energy Profiles for SIDS and the Caribbean
September 2012: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a special edition of the “IRENA Renewable Energy Country Profiles for the Caribbean,” as well as the “IRENA Renewable Energy Country Profiles Special Edition on Islands,” which summarize the state of renewable energy in these areas.
This overview includes information on the individual countries' energy supplies, electrical generation, grid capacity and energy access, and highlights the countries' energy policies, targets and projects. The profiles also consider investment climates as well as their endowments of renewable energy resources including hydro, solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and ocean. The profiles also consider electricity use per person in 2010 and provide national energy profile for each country.
Included in the profiles for the Caribbean are Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia.
The Special Edition on Islands contains information on the countries of the Caribbean plus information for Malta, Bahrain, Comoros, Belize, Cape Verde, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Palau, Kiribati, the Maldives, Nauru, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Niue, the Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, São Tome and Principe, and the Seychelles.
