IEA Highlights Entry of Asian Companies into Solar Cooling Field
5 July 2012: The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) Programme announced that large industrial corporations from Asia have increased their investments in solar cooling. The IEA SHC's multi-country research project will provide support to this field, it notes, with a project titled "Quality Assurance and Support Measures for Solar Cooling (Task 48)."
Among the companies entering the solar cooling market are Hitachi Plant Technologies and Mitsubishi Plastics from Japan. According to IEA SHC, in 2011, Hitachi Plant Technologies announced its goal of achieving a US$63 million turnover by 2015 through investing in their solar powered air conditioning system. In 2012, Mitsubishi Plastics' sales target for their compact absorption chillers was placed at US$38 million by 2015.
The Programme notes that Chinese and Indian companies also have expressed interest. [IEA SHC Press Release]
